The Big Bubble Gun Mixer concept of mixing provides for thorough
vertical and horizontal mixing without any moving parts in the vessel
to
be mixed. The bubble gun consists of a draft tube ("barrel") and bubble
generator located near the lower end of the tube. Methane gas (or any
suitable
gas may be used for other mixing applications) is recirculated from the
top of the digestor and is continuously fed to the bubble generator.
The
bubble generator automatically and intermittently releases gas bubbles
into the barrel.
The single large bubble fills the barrel diameter. The rising bubble acts as a free piston forcing the liquid above it through the barrel and drawing in liquid below it. Before the bubble is released from the top of the gun, another bubble is formed thus insuring continuous pumping action.
On leaving the top of the gun, the liquid stream behaves as a free turbulent jet entraining further quantities of liquid on its way to the surface. A vertical and horizontal movement of mixed liquid is developed from the bottom of the vessel to the top.
Since no moving parts are located below the liquid, maintenance is minimized. Heating/cooling jackets are available to transfer heat while mixing.
